Kate LeSueur (b. 1985, Louisiana USA) is a self-taught artist, known for her intuitive approach to domestic still lifes. Her many years of commercial and editorial photographic work now translate into paintings with distinctive compositions. This pivot in her practice arose after the birth of her third child, requiring radical restructuring of her time and energy. LeSueur’s pictures are a view into the ordinary yet storied aspects of domestic life, they memorialize daily rhythms, and give voice to a vantage point which has historically been seen as inherently less valuable and often outsourced. Her works simply act as a mirror, in an effort to explore and understand her own and other’s place and value in the context of privilege, modern life, femininity and motherhood.
